What is certified Farsi translation, and is Farsi the same as Persian?
Certified Farsi translation is a complete translation of a Persian-language document paired with a signed certificate of accuracy naming the translator, and Kaplan formats it for the court, agency, university, or credential evaluator that will receive the document. Farsi and Persian are the same language: Persian is the English name and Farsi is the name the language uses for itself. Dari is the Afghan variety, sharing the written standard with different vocabulary and document formats, and Tajik is written in Cyrillic rather than Perso-Arabic script. Kaplan converts Solar Hijri calendar dates and shows both, delivers right-to-left layout checked in your own format, fixes one transliteration convention across a filing, and preserves original grading scales rather than converting them.
Farsi Translation
Iranian Civil Records & Calendar Dates
Translation and certification of birth certificates, national identity documents, marriage and divorce records, and the shenasnameh booklet. Iranian civil documents carry Solar Hijri calendar dates, and converting them correctly to the Gregorian calendar is the detail that decides whether a filing holds together, so conversions are shown alongside the original rather than silently replacing it.
Farsi Translation
Academic Credentials & Professional Licences
Translation of degrees, transcripts, and professional licences issued in Iran or Afghanistan, with the original grading scale preserved and described rather than converted, because converting a scale is the credential evaluator's role and not the translator's. Institution names are rendered as the institution itself uses them in English where that exists.
Farsi Translation
Legal & Commercial Documents
Translation of contracts, powers of attorney, notarial deeds, corporate records, and correspondence in Persian. Notarial and court documents from Iran follow set formulae, and those are rendered as the formal instruments they are rather than paraphrased into ordinary English, which is what makes them recognisable to the body receiving them.
Farsi Translation
Dari & Afghan Documentation
Translation of Afghan civil records, tazkira identity documents, and supporting material in Dari, which shares the written standard with Persian while differing in vocabulary and in the documents themselves. Afghan and Iranian records are formatted differently, so they are handled as separate document traditions rather than as one language.
Why Kaplan
Built for Persian Document Accuracy
Farsi, Persian, Dari and Tajik Sorted Out
Persian is the language and Farsi is its own name for itself, so the two words describe the same thing. Dari is the Afghan variety and Tajik is written in Cyrillic. We confirm which is actually in your document rather than working from the word on the request.
Solar Hijri Dates Converted and Shown
Iranian records carry Solar Hijri dates. Conversions are shown alongside the original rather than quietly replacing it, so a reviewer can verify the arithmetic instead of trusting it.
Right-to-Left Layout Delivered Intact
Persian is written right to left in Perso-Arabic script while numbers and Latin names run the other way. Mixed-direction text breaks in ordinary document pipelines, so delivered files are checked in the format you will actually use.
Transliteration Chosen, Then Held
There is no single standard for Persian names in Latin script. A convention is chosen at the start, matched to any spelling the person already uses, and held across every document in the set.
Formal Instruments Kept Formal
Notarial and court documents follow set formulae. They are rendered as instruments rather than paraphrased into plain English, because the formula is what makes them recognisable to the receiving body.
Signed Certificate of Accuracy
Certified Persian translations are delivered with a signed certificate naming the translator, and Kaplan formats it for the court, agency, university, or credential evaluator that will receive the document.
Client Feedback
What Our Clients Say
"They showed the Solar Hijri date next to the converted one. Our evaluator could check it instead of asking us to prove it."
Soraya M.
Credential Evaluation Coordinator
"The first vendor we used gave the file to an Arabic translator because the script looked similar. Kaplan asked which country issued it before quoting."

FAQs
Common Questions
Is Farsi the same as Persian, and where do Dari and Tajik fit?
+
Persian and Farsi are the same language. Persian is the English name, Farsi is the name the language uses for itself, and neither is more correct. Dari is the variety spoken in Afghanistan and it shares the written standard while differing in vocabulary and in document formats. Tajik is the variety in Tajikistan and it is written in Cyrillic rather than Perso-Arabic script, which makes it a genuinely different job. We confirm which one is in your document before quoting.
How do you handle dates on Iranian documents?
+
Iranian civil records use the Solar Hijri calendar, so a birth date on a shenasnameh is not a Gregorian date. We convert it and show both, rather than replacing the original silently, so the person reviewing the filing can check the conversion instead of taking it on trust. A wrong conversion is one of the more common reasons a Persian document set stops making sense internally.
What makes a Persian translation certified?
+
A complete translation accompanied by a signed certificate of accuracy from the translator. Courts, agencies, universities, and credential evaluators rely on that certificate before accepting a Persian-language document. The certificate names the translator and attests to completeness, which is why machine output cannot substitute for it however fluent it looks.
Why does right-to-left layout cause problems?
+
Because Persian runs right to left in Perso-Arabic script while numbers and Latin names run left to right, so almost every Persian document is mixed direction. Ordinary document pipelines and intake forms break that mixing, which puts digits in the wrong order or reverses a name. We check delivered files in the format you will actually open them in rather than only in the editor they were produced in.
Is Persian written in Arabic?
+
It uses a script derived from Arabic, but it is not the Arabic language and the two are unrelated in grammar and vocabulary. Persian adds four letters Arabic does not have. Assigning a Persian document to an Arabic linguist because the script looks familiar is a real and recurring error, and we do not do it.
Can you translate Afghan documents in Dari?
+
Yes. Afghan civil records, tazkira identity documents, and resettlement paperwork are handled as their own document tradition rather than as Iranian records in a different accent, because the formats genuinely differ. Tell us the issuing country when you send the files and the assignment follows from that.
How are academic credentials handled?
+
The original grading scale is preserved and described, never converted. Conversion is the credential evaluator's role, and a translator who converts a scale has made a judgment they are not the right party to make. Institution names are rendered as the institution itself uses them in English where such a form exists.
What if the documents are going to USCIS or a court?
+
Certification format follows the destination. For USCIS or a consulate, see our immigration document translation service. For a docket or evidentiary record, see certified legal translation, which builds a case glossary and certifies for the court. Tell us the destination and we route it rather than certifying for the wrong body.
Do you also provide Farsi interpreters?
+
Yes, and that is the spoken service. Documents are translation, a deposition or appointment is interpreting. See Farsi interpreters for the spoken side and Farsi language background for how Iranian, Dari, and Tajik varieties behave on a record.
Related Persian Language Services
Documents and the spoken record are separate jobs. An interpreter who has read the translated file arrives already holding the names and dates, which matters when a record depends on both.
