Legal Interpreters in
Riverside and San Bernardino

Interpreters for Inland Empire litigation teams, in whatever language the case brings in. Depositions at law offices and reporting suites in both counties, Superior Court hearings, arbitration and mediation sessions, and the client meetings that come before all of them.

Quick Answer

Who provides the interpreter for a legal matter in Riverside or San Bernardino County?

It depends on where the words are spoken. In the courtroom, the Superior Court assigns interpreters; San Bernardino's court says it does so "as resources are available." Depositions, arbitration, mediation and attorney-client meetings are the firm's to staff, and that is the work we cover in both counties, in Spanish and every other language a matter brings in.

Depositions in Both Counties

Deposition interpreters for party, witness and expert testimony taken at Inland Empire law offices and court reporting suites, or over video when counsel is in Los Angeles, Orange County or out of state. Questions and answers are rendered consecutively, so the transcript carries every word of both. We ask for the exhibit list and any technical terms before the date, which is what keeps a read-back from turning into an argument.

Superior Court Hearings

Firms bring us in around the hearing itself: counsel-table interpreting so the attorney and client can confer during a hearing, preparation the evening before testimony, and the cases where the court agrees to appoint an interpreter the party provides. We tell you which credential the interpreter holds before the hearing, not at check-in.

Arbitration and Mediation

When a mediation runs with the parties in separate rooms, the interpreter moves with your client between them and keeps each side's positions where they belong. Arbitration hearings are closer to a trial, with sworn testimony and an award that turns on what the witness said, so we staff them the way we staff court work.

Client Meetings and Case Preparation

Most of the language work on a case happens before anyone is under oath. Intake interviews, reviewing a declaration with the client line by line, witness preparation, and the conversation about whether to settle. These conversations stay confidential: the interpreter works under a signed confidentiality agreement, in the office, by phone or over video.

FAQs

Riverside and San Bernardino Legal Interpreters Questions

Which languages can you cover for Inland Empire legal work?

All of them that a case is likely to need, across 200+ languages. Of the interpreters on our roster who live in Riverside or San Bernardino County, most work in Spanish; Mandarin, Korean, Vietnamese, Arabic, Cantonese, Russian and ASL are also represented locally. For a rarer language we bring an interpreter in from Los Angeles or Orange County, or connect one by video, and we say which before you book. Spanish-only matters in San Bernardino have their own page: Spanish interpreters in San Bernardino.

Will our interpreter be court-certified or court-registered?

California certifies interpreters in twelve spoken languages: Arabic, Cantonese, Eastern Armenian, Farsi, Filipino (Tagalog), Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese. In other languages, an interpreter can hold registered status, which means passing the written exam and oral proficiency exams rather than a full certification exam. We name which one your interpreter holds. For Spanish, see court-certified Spanish interpreters in Riverside, and for background on the credential, our article on the California court-certified interpreter credential.

Can our firm bring its own interpreter to a San Bernardino County hearing?

Sometimes, and the court decides. San Bernardino Superior Court states that "at the request of the party, the Court may consider appointing a qualified interpreter provided by the party." When that is the plan, we send the interpreter's credential ahead so counsel can put it in front of the court early. Where the court staffs the hearing itself, firms still book us for counsel-table work and preparation outside the courtroom.

Can the interpreter join a deposition remotely?

Yes. When the witness is in one county and counsel is in another, or out of state, the interpreter can sit with the witness in person or join on the same video platform as everyone else. In person is the stronger choice when the witness has a strong regional accent or hearing difficulty, because the interpreter catches what a laptop microphone loses. We send the setup notes to the court reporter in advance.

What if the witness speaks an Indigenous language of Mexico or Central America?

Tell us the town or region the witness comes from. Some speakers of Mixteco, Zapoteco or K'iche' use Spanish as a second language and testify more accurately in their first. In those cases we look for an interpreter of the Indigenous language, sometimes working in relay with a Spanish interpreter, and we tell you plainly if one is not available for your date.

How do you staff a multi-day trial or a full hearing day?

With continuity first: the same interpreter, or the same pair, from the first day to the last, so names and case terms stay consistent. When testimony is interpreted simultaneously for a full day, it is a two-interpreter assignment, and the pair alternate so accuracy holds in the afternoon. We include that in the quote rather than raising it once the trial has started.

What should we send when booking a legal interpreter?

The case name, date and expected length, the location (law office, courthouse or video link), the language and the witness's country of origin, and the type of proceeding. Exhibits, a witness list and any glossary help the interpreter prepare. Send it through our request form or call (833) 547-7770, and we confirm the interpreter and a fixed quote before anything is booked.

Do you translate the documents in the case too?

Yes, as a separate written service. Exhibits, medical records, contracts and correspondence in another language are translated with a signed certificate of accuracy through our certified legal translation team, using the same case glossary the interpreters work from.

Where do we book interpreters for non-legal work in Riverside?

Medical appointments, corporate meetings and events are covered on our Riverside interpreting services page. For legal interpreters in other cities, from Los Angeles and Orange County to New York, see legal interpreters by city.
