Although I was born in the heart of Dallas, Texas, I didn’t hear much English at home while growing up. My father’s native language was Italian, and my mother’s was Arabic. We moved to Venezuela before I turned two and, as a result, my first language was Spanish. I learned English while enrolled in a Spanish/English grade school and high school in Caracas. This bilingual foundation eventually allowed me to attend graduate school at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri to receive a master’s in Healthcare Administration.
After years of interpreting in medical offices and hospitals, I went back to school to obtain certification as a court interpreter as well. Soon, I was getting requested for more interpreting jobs than I could possibly cover. So, I began connecting nurse case managers and attorneys with qualified interpreters with whom I had built professional relationships. And just like that, Kaplan Interpreting Services was born!
